TOPEKA—Chief Justice Marla Luckert signed orders reappointing current members to two boards and three councils.

Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program Board

The Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program Board is made up of active or retired lawyers who oversee program operations, create policies and procedures, form ad hoc committees, recommend new board members, and submit reports to the Supreme Court.

Reappointed to four-year terms through June 30, 2029, are:

  • Chris Garcia, attorney, Wichita

  • Janet Thompson Jackson, professor, Washburn University School of Law

  • Bryan Smith, attorney, Topeka

Kansas Guardianship Program Board

The Kansas Guardianship Program Board is a statutorily created seven-member board appointed by the governor and the chief justice. The board governs the Kansas Guardianship Program, which recruits, screens, and trains volunteers to be court-appointed guardians and conservators for vulnerable and at-risk adults.

Retired District Judge Richard Walker is reappointed to a four-year term through June 30, 2029.

Kansas Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision

The Kansas Council for Interstate Juvenile Supervision is a statutorily created seven-member council appointed by several government officers including the chief justice. The council oversees and administers Kansas' participation in the Interstate Compact for Juveniles and develops policies concerning the operations and procedures of the compact within the state.

Spence Koehn is reappointed to a two-year term through June 30, 2027.

Kansas Council for Interstate Juvenile Supervision

The Kansas Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision is a statutorily created 12-member council appointed by various government officers including the chief justice. The council oversees and administers the state's participation in the Interstate Compact for Adult Offenders Supervision and develops policies concerning the operations and procedures of the compact within the state.

District Judge Delia York, 29th Judicial District, is reappointed to a four-year term through June 30, 2029. The 29th Judicial District is Wyandotte County.

Kansas Judicial Council

The Kansas Judicial Council is an independent agency in the judicial branch. The statutorily created council has ten members, eight of whom are appointed by the chief justice. The council works to improve the administration of justice in Kansas by continuously studying the judicial system and related areas of law.

Reappointed to four-year terms through June 30, 2029, are:

  • Judge Stephen Hill, Kansas Court of Appeals

  • Judge Keven O'Grady, 10th Judicial District, composed of Johnson County

  • F. James Robinson Jr., attorney, Wichita

  • Sarah Bootes Shattuck, attorney, Ashland
